Spinal Stenosis

What is spinal stenosis?

Spinal stenosis is a condition where the channel that holds the nerves in the spine becomes narrow. Spinal stenosis can occur anywhere in the spine but is most commonly found in the lower back or lumbar region and the neck or cervical spine. Spinal stenosis can cause pain, stiffness, and numbness, although not everyone experiences any symptoms. Some conditions that are symptomatic of spinal stenosis include sciatica, foot drop, a loss of bladder control, and difficulty while standing or walking.

What causes spinal stenosis?

While spinal stenosis is occasionally congenital, in most cases it is found in people over the age of 50 whose bodies and spines are changing because of the aging process. For example, arthritis causes changes to the vertebrae and discs including thickening of the ligaments and bone spurs that lead to the narrowing of the spinal canal. Spinal stenosis may also be caused by back and spine injuries, tumors, Paget’s disease, and herniated discs.

When should I see a chiropractor about spinal stenosis?

If you experience back pain, making an appointment with Dr. Kielur is your first step to relief. He provides a comprehensive exam for determining the cause of your symptoms, which may include diagnostic imaging tests like X-rays, MRIs, or CT scans. If your pain is related to spinal stenosis, Dr. Kielur will begin a treatment plan to adjust and heal your spine to relieve the narrowing and related nerve compression.

How is spinal stenosis treated?

At his practice, Mass Ave Chiropractic, Dr. Kielur offers comprehensive and customized treatments to address your specific symptoms and concerns. If you are diagnosed with spinal stenosis, Dr. Kielur will use DRS Protocols™ to guide treatment. DRS Protocols™ combines a variety of treatments to release tension in the spine and to create space so that essential oxygen, water, and nutrients can reach the discs to restore and rehydrate them. The discs provide cushioning and stability support to the spine and help to keep the vertebrae in the correct positions, correcting the misalignment that can cause spinal stenosis.

If you are suffering from back pain, neck pain, or radiant pain in your arms and legs, you should make an appointment with Dr. Kielur today. He offers effective and drug-free treatment that not only provides pain relief but also helps to heal the underlying condition causing your pain.
